The ETHOS Lab is an experimental techno-humanities and organizational services lab aiming to create a collaborative research and teaching environment at the IT University of Copenhagen. We explore technology in practice and data landscapes in contemporary society, with particular attention to the intersection of ethnography and digital methods.

In Autumn 2021, we are looking for a motivated student with plenty of initiative to run our PYTHON study group at the ETHOS Lab, which is open to all ITU staff and students, as well as alumni and project partners.

Lab TA Role: Python Study Group

The core of the TA position is to run and coordinate the course for a minimum of 8 weeks during the Autumn 2021 semester, with the possibility of being prolonged. The study group is a community of people interested in learning the programming language Python. Everyone is welcome and both beginners and more advanced programmers are encouraged to join. The idea is to create a structured learning environment where students mutually help each other on the path to understanding the programming better.

You will facilitate a learning community of collective efforts and support, but how you choose to do it is for a large part up to you, ideally in communication with the PYTHON community. You can choose the teaching materials yourself or draw on existing resources within the ETHOS Lab, which include the book ‘Learn Python the hard way’. The TA will work together with a team of Python volunteers, who can assess and cater to different levels of Python programming skills; from those who have never coded in any program to those who frequently code in Python.

The job of the Lab TA Python coordinator is to provide information for the ETHOS website, ensure material and dates for dissemination, apply for funds to cover expenses, spread awareness about the group, buy snacks and coffee, and create a good learning environment along with the volunteers.

Ideally, you have some experience in leading study groups in a collaborative manner, including facilitating exercises, and have (some) practical as well as theoretical knowledge of coding. However, we will consider your application holistically, so do not hold back for sending your application.

While the majority of your hours will be spent running the ETHOS Lab PYTHON study group, you may also be asked to support Lab-based activities during the semester; whether in the Junior Researcher Program, events run by the Heads of Lab or day-to-day work with the Lab Manager.

If you have any questions regarding this position, you may ask our current Lab TA Veronika Skotting: vesk@itu.dk, or our Lab Manager Merethe Riggelsen Gjørding: merg@itu.dk.

Apply by sending your resumé and a 1-page motivation letter to merg@itu.dk.
Deadline: 15 / 05 / 2021
