October 2018

5 things happening in ETHOS Lab. You won't believe number 3!

A busy time in ETHOS Lab peaked last week with an Ethics and AI workshop with researchers from ITU and engineers from the Nordic countries, the Visual Vignettes Workshop led by Rachel Douglas-Jones and Mascha Gugganig of TU Munich, and two days of #TechPlomacy datasprinting with the Data as Relation project. Luckily, we have also been joined by a new cohort of Junior Researchers, both visiting and ITU-enrolled, and the lab is buzzing with new life--and new lights; come check out our starry sky ceiling in the lab.

In the coming month, we will be hosting a series of smaller events like Qs & Brews: Ph.D Life special and Ada Lovelace Day. And our affiliates in the Technologies in Practice group have arranged a talk by Alison Cool on law, ethics and data subjects.

All the best,

Laboratory Life:
Junior Researchers Fall 2018

New Junior Researchers have joined the lab this fall semester. They come from a variety of universities and study programmes: we have visiting researchers from UCSC of Milan and TU Munich. Others join in from different study programmes at ITU. You can read more about them and their projects here.

Ada Lovelace Day

ETHOS Lab will be hosting a celebration event in the lab on Ada Lovelace Day the 9th of October to mark the achievements of women in STEM. It will be an informal affair, with a small talk about the importance of the day -- and really the importance of all days where women contribute in the field of STEM and society. Join us!

When: Tuesday 9 October 12:00-13:00
Where: IT University of Copenhagen, ETHOS Lab (3A30)

by Mirela Sandu

This month, the ETHOS Lab blog Metadata features a blogpost by former Junior Researcher Mirela Sandu. Mirela reflects on the work she did in her Master thesis, as she was concluding the Digital Innovation & Management programme. The thesis was about behaviors of interacting with creative advertising on Facebook. Click here for an interesting read!

ETHOS Lab at ITU's Culture Night 2018

It is once again time for Culture Night at ITU, and ETHOS Lab will be participating as well. Under the theme of "Data Aesthetics", the ETHOS Lab stand will feature our long-standing project of GDPR Deletion Poetry, as well as a chatbot that responds with sounds - a project developed by ETHOS Lab Assistant Bertil Ipsen and his associate Anton Friisgaard.

When: Friday 12 October
Where: IT University of Copenhagen

Qs & Brews: Ph.D Life series

We are launching a series of informal Q&A sessions about what life is like when you are writing a Ph.D thesis. Ph.D. Over a cup of coffee or a Friday bar beer, current Ph.D Fellows will be answering questions from students or other interested people, who are curious, certain or even critical about pursuing a Ph.D position. Everyone is welcome, and at the first session we will be joined by Sunniva Sandbukt and Raluca Stana, both Fellows at ITU. See you there!

When: Friday 5 October
Where: ETHOS Lab (3A30), IT University of Copenhagen
