SUMMARY:TechFestival: ThingsCon Salon
DESCRIPTION:Ethics and Responsibility in IoT \nThingsCon Salon Copenhagen aims to create a space for exploration and discussion of ethics and responsibility in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT). Such reflections are crucial for ensuring a future we want to live in. The event brings together innovators and thinkers from Sweden\, Denmark and elsewhere in Europe to share experiences in an informal discussion with the participants. The event is free of charge and intended for designers\, developers and other professionals with a keen interest in IoT. \nThingsCon Salon Copenhagen is a collaboration between ThingsCon and the VIRT-EU project. \nThingsCon is Europe’s leading conference about the future of hardware\, connected devices and Internet of Things. Started in Berlin it has grown into a global community of likeminded practitioners around the Internet of Things and new hardware. \nVIRT-EU is a collaborative research project at ITU Copenhagen entitled Values and Ethics in Innovation for Responsible Technology in Europe funded by the EU Horizon 2020 and working to support the development of ethical IoT. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.com/e/thingscon-salon-ethical-and-responsible-iot-at-techfestival-tickets-36931802014

SUMMARY:#Shut Up & Write
DESCRIPTION:When: Every Thursday 9:30-11:30\nWhere: ETHOS Lab\, 1C05 \nRegister here \nBring what you want to write on\, your computer\, maybe a set of headphones and snacks. \nWith a short introduction\, we write for 2 sessions lasting 45 minutes without interruptions. There will be a (obligatory) 15 minutes break in between. Often\, it is useful to put writing goals for each writing session on the whiteboard\, as a public commitment to the dedicated time.  \nWriting is a craft and one of the key requirements in conveying any research. It is also a vital part of academia and requires creativity but also scientific robustness. ETHOS Lab acknowledges this deskwork as an analytical process that needs to be taken seriously and we are therefore starting up weekly #shutupandwrite sessions on Thursdays from 9:30-11:30. The first session is next week\, Thursday September 14. \nShut Up & Write is an initiative kicked-off by a thesis writing workshop by co-head of lab Rachel Douglas-Jones\, also co-teaching the course ‘Writing Innovation Studio‘. Rachel has successfully been organising #shutupandwrite sessions for ETHOS Lab researchers and refers to the blog ‘The Thesis Whisperer’ by Dr. Inger Mewburn\, Director of Research Training at the Australian National University for inspiration. \nNo matter what you are writing on – please join in the sessions. Remember\, there is no such thing as writing\, only rewriting.      \n#Shutupandwrite is scheduled in the ETHOS calendar.
